Silver Falls State Park

Silver falls is a must if you are near Salem, Oregon. Luckily enough, we have family that live there and Silver Falls has been on our bucket list for some time now. We made a family day out of it and it was a blast! We only did 4 miles of the loop. This hike is a bit "touristy" but its SO worth it!

Things to know

  • I recommend getting there early in the morning to try and bet most of the crowd. We showed up around 2 and it was packed!

  • South falls day use Cost $5 to park your car. Bring exact cash or a Visa/ MasterCard.

  • USE THE RESTROOM- there is one restroom along the trail and the sound of water will make you need to go.. Bad. Don't skip out on the only opportunity you have. I normally would have popped a squat on the trail but there were SO MANY PEOPLE!!

  • Bring snacks and/or stop by the cafe at the main entrance

Trails

Silver Falls is huge and can definetly be an all day thing if you want it to be. The Oregon State Parks made an in-depth map on specific trail rules and details! In the link, they also provide you with pet regulations.

The trails are incredibly managable and considered moderate only because there are some steep switch backs. You will be surrounded by trees and waterfalls practically your entire hike!
