Where to Camp
McArthur - Burney Falls Rim Campground
This is the most common one most people camp at in order to get to the falls early in the morning and enjoy the trail to themselves.
This is where we camped at. The town of McCloud is not far from these sites. We stayed here two nights and enjoyed the McCloud falls and rivers then headed out to Burney Falls the next day. The best part about this camping area is IT'S FREE. This campground, in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, has 8 first come first serve camping spots. The campsites are along a river so you can wake up and watch the sunrise with a cup of coffee. You are seriously in the middle of all the top things to do in the area. To get there from I5, get on SR 89 East and turn right when you see a cross country ski sign about 13 miles after the ranger station in McCloud. This is a loggers road so you might see trucks throughout your stay.
The falls are located right off of the parking lot provided. However, there is a 1.3 mile loop around the whole falls that is worth seeing. It's got great fishing holes along the trail as well as great photography points. This waterfall was loved so much by Theodore Rosevelt, he called it the Eight Wonder of the World. The falls were named after Samual Burney and The McArthur Family who were Pioneers that settled here. Honestly, the pictures speak for themselves.
